About Thalassemia Disease
What is Thalassemia?
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder caused when the body does not make enough hemoglobin, an important part of red blood cells.
Severe anemia caused by Thalassemia may damage organs and lead to life-threatening complications if proper treatment and blood support are not provided regularly.
How do I know if I have Thalassemia?
Moderate and severe forms are usually identified during childhood because symptoms of anemia appear early in life.
Family history and blood tests are important indicators for diagnosis.
Can Thalassemia be prevented?
Since Thalassemia is hereditary, genetic counseling and awareness can help families understand and reduce transmission risks.
